OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that all infants and children have immense potential and the curriculum we offer seeks to unlock that potential and to support them to “learn how to learn”. The learning environment is carefully staged as we believe that the environment is the third teacher and is a key contributor to enhancing the infants and children’s learning. The cornerstone of our curriculum is built on the concept of respect and this is visible in the close relationships that we form with all infants, children and their families. All infants and children are engaged in peaceful caregiving routines.
Infants and children are viewed as investigators who take responsibility for their own learning both autonomously and collaboratively. All infants and children engage in creativity and imagination throughout their day. The older children enjoy project work enabling them to be continually challenged to be risk takers and develop resourcefulness.
Infants and children are empowered to be respectful and responsible care takers of their environment as they explore aspects of the natural, social and physical world. Science and technology are weaved into these learning experiences and enables all to develop and express their own working theories.
Communication and collaborative relationships are key contributors to children developing the social competence skills that will prepare them to live successfully in a 21st century world. Early literacy and numeracy are embedded within the curriculum to ensure these are strong priorities within the infants and children’s holistic development. Teachers support and encourage infants and children to develop resilience and self-management strategies to empower them to learn and grow.
We acknowledge the bicultural partnership inherent within Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are committed to practising and developing te reo Māori and tikānga in all aspects of our teaching. Inclusiveness and acceptance of all differing cultures and beliefs underpins our curriculum.
